Vista del Cortez Community ~ In Los Barriles on the Sea of Cortez

Take a look at all the fun Baja Sur Mexico has to offer!

“My father and his buddies flew into Cabo San Lucas in 1974, landed on a dirt runway, and spent four nights enjoying the simple Mexican lifestyle that thrives on relaxation and fun! Los Barriles is today what Cabo was back then; a great vibe, fantastic and affordable food, miles of beach-walking, friendly faces, and views to remember. Fishing, snorkeling, wind-surfing, beaching, walking, eating, drinking, laughing, chillin’…. Where do you get all that and still have it be affordable? Los Barriles has all this, and so much more. Wow! I can hardly wait to get back!”

During the summer, there’s the Bisbee’s East Cape Offshore Fishing Tournament with more than 75 teams competing for more than $400,000 in cash prizes. Other hotels in the area also hold tournaments with six figure prizes or more. In spring, Los Barriles is home to the beloved Baja Shakespeare Festival.

And in winter when the world famous winds kick up, Los Barriles hosts the Lord of the Wind, the world championship annual kite boarding event. Click here to see a short film about the Lord of The Wind event made by Justin Wolff Productions:

The Los Barriles area is known worldwide for its sport fishing and wind surfing. In addition, the East Cape area offers incredible bike riding, eco-tours, whale watching, snorkeling, surfing, horseback riding, kayaking, quad-riding and more.

And if you want to do very little, there’s always the option of simply relaxing with a good book, sipping a cold beer and soaking up the rays on the sandy beach of the Sea of Cortez.

Hotels Palmas de Cortez and Playa del Sol (both in Los Barriles) and Punta Colorada, (about half an hour south, known as “Roosterfish Capital of the World”) boast the largest fishing fleet on the East Cape.

You Know How To Do It

The seaside town of Los Barriles is nestled beside the world famous Sea of Cortez. It is conveniently located on HWY 1—about 45 minutes north of the San Jose Del Cabo International Airport and a little over an hour away from Cabo San Lucas.

Los Barriles (pop. 5,000) is a safe and diverse town split evenly between Mexicans, Americans and Canadians.

The town is sprinkled with delicious and very affordable restaurants, and offers supermarkets, medical, dental and veterinary services, along with smokehouses, pubs and water sports and fishing businesses. Los Barriles offers a peaceful, yet full lifestyle of living in a less touristy village, with the benefits of the nearby tourist resorts of Cabos San Lucas and La Paz.

For those who prefer more excitement, the city of Cabo San Lucas with its plentiful nightlife, is just over an hour to the South.

Cabo San Lucas is the 5th most traveled destination in the world behind London, Paris, New York and San Francisco.
